Young Independent Filmmaker, Rafael Santos is dragged into controversy after his controversial remarks about theater actors, in his interview with ANC, in which he was asked why he preferred to hire theater actors instead of getting mainstream actors, he stated:
“Personally, I find theater actors are better to work with because they don’t complain; you can feed them skyflakes three meals a day, and pay them in cat food basically” he also added, “and they are never late, and they cry when you want them to cry, other actors kasi you have to hit them first.” [...]

To start off the Best Director Award for the Director’s showcase was won by Gil Portes for his film: The Two Funerals, while the Best Film award went to Mark Meily. Mindanao Filmmaker, Sheron Dayoc bagged both the Best Film and Best Director Award for Halaw, for the New Breed Category.
